MRI
Medical Park Imaging has two MRI scanners.  One “state of the art” high field short-bore scanner and one open scanner.  All MRI’s are performed by AART (American Registry for Radiological Technology) certified technologists, and interpreted by Board Certified Radiologists.

What is MRI?
MRI is short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.  An MRI allows your doctor to see internal organs, blood vessels, tumors, muscles, joints, areas of infection, and more. MRI has proven to be very valuable in diagnosing a broad range of conditions, including sports medicine and neurology.

Is an MRI Safe?
To date, there are no  known effects of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.  The machine creates a magnetic field that sends radio waves through you body, which in turn, creates an image of the inside of your body.  An MRI will not expose you to any radiation.

Are there any restrictions for a MRI?
Since the MRI machine uses a strong magnetic field, the following are restricted.
Cardiac Pacemaker
Cardiac Defibrillator
Aneurysm Clips
Insulin or infusion pump
Cochlear implants
Any prosthesis
Heart Valves
Neurostimulator
Stents, coils, filter
Vascular surgical clips (aortic or other)
Tattooed eye make-up
Spinal/ventricular shunts
IUD

How Long is an MRI
The average length of a scan is approximately 30 minutes for each exam performed.

Are There any preparations for an MRI?
Wear comfortable clothing that has no metal snaps or zippers.  Remove all jewelry, hairclips, and hearing aids. You can eat and drink before a MRI (NOT MRCP) so there is  no fasting!  If you like, bring your favorite cd to listen to!

BREAST MRI
Breast MRI is used in conjunction with mammography and ultrasound. MRI has been shown to detect small breast lesions and successfully image the dense breast tissue common in younger women as well as those with breast implants. MRI of the Breast is recommended for high risk patients including those with a very strong family history of breast cancer or has already been diagnosed cancer.
