Digital Mammography
A regularly scheduled digital mammography can significantly increase the survival rate for women with breast cancer. A digital mammography, which is the best screening examination available today, can detect 2-3 times as many early breast cancers as physical examination. A baseline digital mammography is recommended for women between the ages of 35 to 40. An annual screening digital mammography is recommended for women beginning at age 40.

The approximate time for a d
igital mammography is 20 minutes.

A diagnostic d
igital mammography takes approximately 30 minutes. Reasons for diagnostic digital mammographys include: patients who have breast implants; patients with abnormal breast symptoms; and patients with breast abnormality or suspicion from their screening digital mammography.

Ultrasound is used with mammography in women with dense breast tissue to determine whether a lump in the breast is a cystic lump or a solid lump.
